Rambling routes

Happy rambling!

Contrary to the German saying, rambling is nowadays not only the "Miller's delight". Many people go rambling in an area which present them with an attractive scenery. The Black Forest is one of the best-loved and beautiful rambling areas. The landscape is diversified and varied; it changes from the foothills and their fringes of vines and goes up to the densely wooded mountains. Solitary and well-signposted rambling paths often lead through intact countryside, across high moors to mountain lakes which are mystified by legends.

In the foothills zone along the wine route in Baden, the ramblers find a landscape which is blessed with wine and fruit, half-timbered winegrower villages and magnificent vantage points down the Rhine Valley and across to the cathedral in Strasbourg with the Vosges Mountains forming a backdrop. This countryside is historical Ortenau with Offenburg at its centre. A colourful, sanguine and reflective landscape which you really should acquaint yourself with.

Other rambling routes are signposted from the centre of Offenburg; it is however also possible to reach the access routes Rheinaue wetlands and the Ortenau wine trail.
